Metabolic Office is a contemporary ecological design, architecture, and research practice based in Ahmedabad that uses integrated and whole systems thinking by utilizing existing patterns and resilient features observed in topographies and eco-systems to create regenerative forms of production, inhabitation, and wilderness.
Our Office has been working on various land design projects in Gujarat at various scales - from master planning, rewilding, water management, landscaping, and real estate projects, that rely on effective design solutions that are highly contextual and case-specific.
We have an advanced working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems - having worked on projects that process planetary-scale remote sensing data from various sources to connect disparate institutions and research groups to develop strategies for Climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience.
HYDRO-ECOLOGY
Hydro-ecology is the study of the interactions between water and the environment, including the study of water quality, hydrology, and aquatic ecosystems. At Metabolic Office, we use our understanding of hydro-ecology to inform our approach to water management in our projects, with a focus on responsible management and conservation of this critical resource.
REWILDING
Rewilding involves restoring natural processes and habitats to an ecosystem to promote biodiversity and ecological health. Our practice at Metabolic Office includes a focus on rewilding, with the goal of creating spaces that not only support human habitation but also contribute to the health and resilience of the surrounding ecosystem.
INTEGRATED MASTER PLANNING
Integrated master planning is an approach to urban planning that takes into account the complex interdependencies between different systems and stakeholders. Our team at Metabolic Office uses this approach to create comprehensive and sustainable plans that prioritize the health and well-being of both people and the environment.
SYSTEMS THINKING
Systems thinking is a holistic approach to problem-solving that takes into account the interconnectedness and interdependence of different systems. At Metabolic Office, we apply systems thinking to all of our projects, recognizing that the built environment is an integral part of the natural environment and that our designs must reflect this reality.
REMOTE SENSING
Remote sensing involves the collection of data about the environment from a distance, often using satellites or aerial imagery. Our team at Metabolic Office has expertise in remote sensing technologies and uses this data to inform our approach to climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience.
PERMACULTURE
Permaculture is a design philosophy that seeks to create sustainable and regenerative ecosystems by mimicking natural patterns and processes. Our practice at Metabolic Office incorporates permaculture principles into our designs to create spaces that not only support human habitation but also contribute to the health and resilience of the surrounding ecosystem.
REGENERATIVE DESIGN
Regenerative design is an approach to design that prioritizes the creation of spaces that are not only sustainable but also contribute to the restoration and regeneration of the surrounding environment. At Metabolic Office, we are committed to creating spaces that support both people and the planet, with a focus on responsible management of resources and the integration of natural systems into the built environment.
