Rancharda, Ahmedabad
This landscape project in Rancharda, Ahmedabad is designed as a functional weekend retreat that integrates recreational spaces within a permaculture garden. The design incorporates a series of structured elements for outdoor activities, circulation, and productive cultivation. A gravel pathway runs around the house, connecting multiple seating areas positioned for shade and usability. This pathway transitions into different landscape elements, at times leading to a bio-lined pond designed to support water retention, and at other times opening into courts within the orchard. A small kitchen garden is located near the outdoor dining area to facilitate easy access to fresh produce. The planting strategy prioritizes productive and edible species, with an orchard featuring citrus species such as bael, starfruit, lemon, and bijoru, alongside fruit-bearing trees including amla, kothu guava, sitaphal, mango, chickoo, setur, tamarind, and bor.
The overall design approach is structured to balance functionality, durability, and ecological performance, to ensure a low-maintenance yet efficient and well integrated outdoor environment.
