Shilaj, Ahmedabad
The Shilaj Lake masterplan was developed as a proposal for Ahmedabad’s Urban Development Authority, responding to urgent challenges in the ongoing lake restoration. The work, already underway, had led to severe disruptions—the destruction of natural topography, loss of habitats, and poorly handled grading that ignored the lake’s natural water flow patterns and ecological context.
This proposal takes a data-driven approach, beginning with a detailed mapping of the site’s existing conditions, including both its natural and altered topography. The masterplan aims to restore balance, integrating hydrological sensitivity, ecological restoration, and thoughtful public access to create a lake that functions both as a resilient natural system and a meaningful public space.
