Nalsarovar, Ahmedabad
The Nalsarovar Proposal is a comprehensive masterplan for a plotting scheme rooted in a strategic and ecology based land management approach. The site presented significant critical challenges of high soil and water salinity, which severely restricted vegetation growth and required a long-term framework for soil restoration and water management.
To address these conditions, the proposal integrated adaptive strategies, which included incorporating organic carbon through biomass sourced from nearby farms, factories, and organic waste streams. It also introduced key hydrological interventions such as farm bunds, designed to function as water harvesting structures that direct rainwater into the upper aquifer and gradually improve water quality while preventing uncontrolled runoff.
The proposal also explored various road networks and plotting configurations to optimize site circulation and land use. Common plots were designated as experimental grounds for testing strategies in saline-tolerant species, regenerative agricultural practices, and financially viable agricultural models beyond conventional real estate development. The proposal sought to create a self-sustaining landscape where land, water, and ecology were integrated into a cohesive, forward-looking masterplan.
